When 2017 came to an end I already knew that as far as 2018 went, the summer season would be awesome. There was an abundance of sequel series that aired that season that it was almost overwhelming. Then I thought there was no way that 2019 could beat what 2018 had accomplished. Boy was I wrong. So, today for the final day of 12 Days of Anime I am going to go over some of the exciting things that are coming in 2019. Maybe it will encourage you to check them out too, or just let you know that they are happening because there were a few I had no idea about.
First off is something I have already mentioned in 12 Days of Anime which is the new Fruits Basket anime that is going to be coming out sometime in 2019. (Can’t we just have an official release date already!!!) You can check out my full post talking about it a little bit HERE. I am very excited about this retelling of the story and am hoping that it is able to properly tell the whole story.
Of course, we also have even more sequels that will be coming out this year. The second half of the third season of Attack on Titan that is going to air in April of 2019. We will pick up after the very intense and very motivational ending to part one of season three. Now, it is beyond me why they made this the second half of season three and not just a season four. They could easily have just passed it off as season four and no one would have complained, now I am just confused. Nevertheless, from that preview in the middle of the ending theme, it seems that we are going to be in for a wild ride. Oh god, I do not know if I am ready or not. Also, in April we see the valiant return of Chihayafuru for what is also going to be a season that I do not know if I am emotionally prepared for. I have read the manga but it has been a long time, so I am not 100% sure what is going to exactly happen in this season. But if what I think is going to happen will happen then prepare for a lot of crying over on Twitter. While I have not finished the first season, One Punch Man will also have its long-awaited second season this Spring. That gives some of us enough time to catch up on the first season before the second one comes out.
In July 2019, Makoto Shinkai’s newest film, Tenki no Ko, is also going to be released. So, for those of you who are big fans of his previous works, it will be a very exciting treat in the middle of next year.
Summer 2019 does not have much released yet, but we do know that Starmyu season 3 is coming so that is going to be fun. I really enjoyed the second season of Starmyu but have no idea what season three is going to entail since they already did their big musical which was honestly all I was hoping for. I think that it will be exciting no matter what is going to happen.
The fall so far, like summer, does not have a whole lot announced yet. However, the big show that we do know of is My Hero Academia season 4. Yay! That seems like so long from now, but from what I have gathered it will be worth the wait. The word on the street is that the story that season four will tell is going to be very good and have us on the edge of our seat. I bet those of you out there who read the manga are laughing at me since I have no idea what is coming. I am very excited though.
The BIGGEST thing that is coming in the fall is the new Haikyu anime. Thank god our fangirl prayers have been answered. I have heard two different things about this anime. One of which is that they are just going to hold some kind of event in September 2019 to officially announced the new season. A season that they also will not say is a sequel season I might add. Then the new anime will not start until 2020. The other is that the season will start in Fall 2019. Either way…there is going to be more Haikyu news in 2019. Also, they announced it on Kageyama’s birthday so that was pretty cool. Plus like I said, just knowing more Haikyu is coming has made 2019 already so much more enjoyable.
It was also announced that there would be an anime adaptation of Ace of Diamond Act II coming out in 2019. We finally get to see the new first years and all of the shenanigans that come with them. I liked the manga, but I think I may like the show better. Seeing all of the Seido boys again is going to be so exciting as well as getting to see the new recruits and how they go about fitting in with the already pretty large main cast.
A lot of those are the sequels coming in 2019 that I am very much looking forward to, and that in and of itself is a very large number. So far I have not looked too much into new series and a lot of the year’s releases have not been announced yet. That is a good amount of anime coming out to be excited about, usually, I have one or two anime that I know is coming this far ahead of time. We have nine so far. Nine! That is nuts.
And that is part of the reason that I am looking forward to 2019. I am also just looking forward to 2018 being over because it has been…it has been quite a year guys. With that, we bring the final day of 12 Days of Anime to an end for 2018. The blog will, of course, be around in 2019 and most likely I will be back here next year for 12 Days of Anime 2019 as well. I seem to get better are preparing every year, so maybe next years will actually be all done ahead of time. Haha, that was a funny joke.
