Winter 2019 – Week 1

The first week of the new season is here! Sort of. A few of these shows have multiple episodes wrapped up this week because I wanted to start week one when everything was airing, so some shows aired two episodes before this came out. Others aired two episodes right away so they already had multiple episodes out before some shows every started. So far with week one most of the shows seem pretty promising (excluding one) but I am very excited about what is to come.

Boogiepop wa Warawanai – Episode 1, 2, & 3

I am confused. I am so very, very, very confused. The first episode left me absolutely furious because of how confused I was, and I almost stopped watching it. I went against that idea though and watched the second episode which made things a little bit clearer which was nice and then I convinced myself that it would not be so bad after all. Then the third episode went back to that confusing stuff again, not as bad as with episode 1 but also not as good as episode 2. The only thing I can say is that it is a good kind of confused…if that makes sense. I am one of those people who gets absolutely furious when a show leaves so much out and there have been shows I have dropped because I was so confused. I hope Boogiepop does not do that because I am interested in the story and how we seem to almost be working backward. At least that is how I think it is working. There is a lot going on though. Not only do we have Boogiepop but there is also a man-eater, an alien/angel/man, drugs, and a bunch of regular people who are just thrown into this mess. That is a lot, and I can only imagine it is going to get crazier from here. Oh boy.

Dororo – Episode 1

Man, I did not think that this show would get me so interested so quickly. Going into it I had a whole lot of questions and was not sure how the show was going to handle them. The first episode has already shown us just what Hyakkimaru (the barely human teenager who saved little Dororo from the slime villain from My Hero Academia’s cousin) has to offer. He can do tasks while barely able to see what I could never do with full vision. Now I still have questions about how he became able to walk without limbs, simply because we do not know how much limb he actually had, but from the looks of how he regained his face in the first episode, I find it very interesting. The opening and ending are awesome and little Dororo is adorable. I am more intrigued in this show than I thought I would be when I first read the description and I cannot wait to see what happens to the two characters next.

Meiji Tokyo Renka – Episode 1

That was way too many character introductions while also trying to tell you about how they are, as I imagine, important people in Japanese history. At least in Mei’s world any way I have no idea. Speaking of Mei. The poor thing lost all her friends on her birthday just because she was eating roast beef and talking to her little orb friends. If anything, they were just her imaginary friends. What little kid does not have imaginary friends? I had a pink crocodile that had to go with me to school every day, maybe Mei just had orbs. Also, that magician is apparently a very bad magician if he was not quite sure what he did to Mei, and then instead of immediately returning her so he did not like mess up history he just left. Honestly, I am not really sure about this show because it has not really interested me a whole lot so far, but I am going to give it a couple of more episodes to see if it picks up a little bit now that all of the boys have been introduced. Now if only I remembered their names.

The Morose Mononokean Season 2 – Episode 1 & 2

Only the first episode of the new season and it seems like Ashiya already has himself in some trouble. Itsuki gets so mad at him every time he gets himself into trouble but still allows him to go off by himself. Since it is the second season, they already guess that you know who everyone is and what is going on. We did get to see some of the more prominent characters from the first season like Shizuku and the Legislator, and Ashiya is on his way to see a character that has been mentioned before but we have not seen. It was a good first episode that made me glad I decided to catch up on the season on so quickly and cannot see what situations Ashiya gets himself into now. Because we know it is going to happen. Not a whole lot happened during the second episode except more Ashiya shenanigans while trying to deliver the scroll to the executive. Then once he safely got back to the Legislator’s he got himself into even more trouble with Itsuki and then proceeded to get sick from eating too much underworld food. The biggest take away from this episode was when the Legislator and Kora were talking about how much Itsuki has changed when it comes to humans. It just made me more curious about just how Itsuki came to be the Master of the Mononokean. More importantly, my biggest question is if he lives in the Mononokean or if he has an actual home. Where are his parents? Like I said I have a lot of questions so far and episode 2 kind of hinted that maybe we will get an answer to them. Or not.

Run with the Wind – Episode 12

THE BOYS ARE BACK! With a training camp episode! It was just a matter of time before it came, and it is finally here. The scene with the boys all fearing for their lives while Haiji drove the van was hilarious. It had me laughing so hard. We also got to see both Yuki and Shindo reach the time requirement and I was on the edge of my seat guys. What a way to start the first episode back from a month-long break. Plus, we saw how much Yuki is actually getting into running now by helping to strategize what to do during the races. So proud of him! The only bad thing that came out of this episode was that annoying red-haired kid that Kakeru knows from high school. I could each in and slap that boy for bothering him. I am just so happy this show is back. Tuesdays are wonderful again.

And that ends week one of the new season. I really am unsure of what I am going to do with Meiji Tokyo Renka. It definitely needs to pick up or something in the next few episodes because I am not suffering through the whole season like this. Other than that, as I said the season is off to a good start.

See you next Sunday!

The more I read what others say about boogie, I’m surprised they haven’t had a mental break down yet, due to how baffling it is

I have gotten close a couple of times. It feels like I am always missing something but I know they probably never showed what that is in the first place.

That was a great episode of Run with the Wind… A bit hokey in spots (training camp curry!), but lots of good character stuff.

haha sometimes you need that hokey stuff lol. That’s a basic requirement for sports anime
