Winter 2018 Anime

I already feel so behind on this season because I have only really watched two shows and I saw that one show already has multiple episodes released so I am already so behind. The first week of school just so perfectly matched up with the first week many shows started airing, and since the first week is usually the craziest I had no time to watch anything because I was adjusting to my new schedule and I was exhausted after being done with many of them. I try to get out my first impressions post before I watch anything, so it worked out that I am still behind but that does not reduce my stress level. I also kind of had problems with choosing what shows I wanted to watch. Part of my struggle with this season was that there was not one show that had me jumping out of my season waiting for it. There were a few that initially peaked my interest, but nothing that really caught my attention originally. Nevertheless, I did indeed find some shows to watch and today I am going to tell you about what I chose to watch this season.

Fall 2017 Wrap-Up

With Fall 2017 season concluded and all wrapped in a bow, it is that time of the season to go over just how I think the shows I watched this season performed. There were…quite a few drops, some additions, some put on hold, and one show I finally caught up on! This season has actually been a real rollercoaster for me as a fan, seeing as how I look at the shows I started on and the ones I actually finished and there were quite a few changes made. We have a lot to go through, so buckle up guys.

Top Openings & Endings of 2017

2017 Openings and Endings.pngAs we are nearing the end of 12 Days of Anime, I feel it is a good time to bring out the Top 5 lists for the year. The next three days will all be top 5 lists of various things. Today will technically be a top 10 list guess because there will be five openings and five endings covered. These themes will just cover the shows that aired at some point in 2017, and will exclude shows that I watched in 2017 but aired earlier. If I did that I will tell you now that Yuri on Ice would be number one in both categories because I love the opening and ending theme of that show very much and I listen to it on repeat daily. I talked about Yuri on Ice already for 12 Days of Anime, so I need to stop myself. These are in no particular order, they are just five openings and five endings that I really enjoyed. This is the day that my inner band kid takes over a little bit.

Life Lessons in The Boy and the Beast

the-boy-and-the-beast-e28093-funimation-filmsI have to admit that when I went to watch The Boy and the Beast for the first time, I was a little reluctant because of the most recent Mamoru Hosoda film I had just watched, Wolf Children. Usually, I tend to not keep too much of a watch on certain directors or studios and try to watch things based on the show itself. I am not saying that Wolf Children is a bad movie. It is a good movie! You should give it a try. However, when the main character kisses the man in his wolf form part of me was like “eh, what is going on?” It’s a little odd, right? Like I get he’s a werewolf or a wolf-man or whatever it says he is, but it is still weird. Then when I found out about the beast world in The Boy and The Beast I was not quite sure where it was going to go. I was not quite sure what Hosoda was going to do exactly in this film, but I was pleasantly surprised at the story that it told.

A Good Sequel: Kuroko’s Basketball Last Game

cyyourpwgae0eskI just realized that so far in 12 Days of Anime I have yet to talk about a sports anime. That needs to be fixed right away. So, why not talk about the sequel movie to a sports anime that I love to death. An anime that wormed its way into my heart a few years ago already, and its sequel just made me love it even more. Today I am talking about the Kuroko’s Basketball: Last Game film that I finally got around to watching a few weeks ago. It was one of the anime movies that I was looking the most forward to this past year, and a sequel that I was very nervous about. Be prepared for the most fangirling I have done so far, and I think it is safe to say that this post is getting out all my fangirling for the next few days. Be ready though, because…let us just say I spent too much time focused on a certain character’s haircut, but I will spare you the details of that.

The Best Part of Princess Jellyfish

princess-jellyfish-girls-only-anime-club-36979471-1280-720Normally I try not to write about a show until I have finished watching it. That way I have a full grip on what is going on with the story, and how the characters have evolved. This year has seen many exceptions to that rule and has caused me to just throw it out altogether. Because why wait to write about a show if there is something going on at this exact point in time that I need to talk about. This does not apply to reviews, of course, because you need to finish it to do those. I have not finished Princess Jellyfish but there are a few things that I need to talk about, and why not do it for Day 5 of 12 Days of Anime? So, today I want to talk about my favorite part of Princess Jellyfish as of now since I have not finished watching it yet.

2017 Changed My Opinion of Idol Shows

giphyOne kind of anime that I have never really been able to get into no matter how hard I try was idol shows. I would hear my friends, and fellow bloggers, mention how much they love shows like the iDOLM@STER franchise or Love Live! and they seemed interesting to me, but I was always reluctant to try them. I was not sure if it was the fact that they were girl groups and I was more interested in a boy band feel, or something else. I always liked the idea of these shows. The idea of following either a single person or a group of them as they try to become idols and make names for themselves. Watching them grow as people and idols, and see how it changed the way they lived was something that seemed really interesting to me. So, I decided to go ahead and try some of the shows that I thought I might like.

Today for Day 4 of 12 Days of Anime we are going to follow my little journey and how a certain show from this year changed how I feel about idol shows.

The Suspense of Attack on Titan Season 2

84177lThe title of this post also has a double meaning because it pertains not only to the suspense that exists within this season of Attack on Titan, but also the suspense that surrounded when it was going to come out or if it was going to come out at all. I have had a lot of mixed emotions since season two came out. There were things that I liked and things that I did not like. Today I wanted to talk about a sequel that was probably one of the most anticipated anime of the year, and the most talked about before, during, and after it aired. Was it what we wanted? Not exactly. Was there not enough Levi? Definitely not! I guess this is just me ranting even more about a show that I have a lot of feelings about, and just need to get them out. What better way to end the year than to vent your frustrations, right? Have to get it over with now because next year we will have season 3 to worry about. A topic that will probably be brought up this time next year. It really is a never-ending cycle.

Is Anime Better With or Without Source Material?

Hey everyone, I am back with a question that I have searched the debts of my anime/meme/Criminal Minds/nerd filled brain to find answer to, and honestly I cannot tell you if we will get to an answer by the end of this post. Who knows, we will see. This post came about because of one simple thing…the new Free! anime, and I know what you’re saying if you follow me on Twitter: “Yes Ka-chan we know you’re excited. We get it. Let’s move on! How is this relevant?”

5 Places In Anime I’m Thankful I Don’t Live In

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow Americans out there, and a happy Thursday to everyone else!! I wanted to do a little post to celebrate today. I knew I had two options. 1. An emotional and warm post about actual things I’m thankful for in life. 2. A somewhat silly post about things I’m thankful I do not have to deal with. If you know me (or just read the title) then you already know which one I am going to pick. So here is a silly little post about five places in anime that I am thankful I do not have to live in on this day of thanks.

Let’s get started shall we?
