Double Decker and Western Crime Shows

I have been a big fan of crime shows since I was little. The original Law & Order is played in my house religiously to this day, and we often played the game of predicting who we thought the bad guy was going to be. This continued on after the original series ended and I branched out to watch nearly every other crime show out there. All of which I grew to love in their own unique way. When I was recently in the hospital after breaking my leg, I caught the opening for Law & Order: SVU coming from one of the rooms as I was rolled up to be admitted, and I asked the woman moving me if she could move a little faster so that I could get to my room and start watching it. I bring this up because as a big crime show and anime fan, I have been searching for a long time for a really good anime that focuses on crime the way western crimes shows do. Why? I just thought it would be interesting and a fun thing to see. So far the anime crime show (no not Anime Crimes Division, that’s something else) idea is something that has not quite met the probably too high of standards that I have set for it. However, this season Double Decker! Doug & Kirill has been airing and has shown some common tropes that appear in western crime shows. Buckle up guys because today for Day 10 of 12 Days of Anime I am talking about not just anime but my other favorite form of television, crime shows.

Overcoming Tragedy with Kaoru Ijuin

4f198ea6b66d779dfb61f3770b37a5d4Welcome back to Day 8 of 12 Days of Anime! Man, the days are really starting to fly by now. So far I have somehow managed to stay ahead so the posts are not written the day of. And…I probably just jinxed it. Crap.

Onto the real reason we are here. I have mentioned it before, but I have a standing rule that I usually do not write about an anime until I have finished watching it. That mostly comes from the fact that I do a lot of reviews here and I hate to write a long post about something I am halfway through only to have the rest of the show change my mind drastically. However, after recently starting to watch Tada Never Falls in Love, I just felt the urge to write a post about Kaoru. Plus, no matter what the rest of the show does I doubt they can somehow come in and mess it up. So, today for Day 8 of 12 Days of Anime we are going to talk about Kaoru Ijuin and how he turned out to be the best friend a person could have.

Revisiting Fruits Basket

fruits_basket_protagonists_with_credit_embargo_till_00h00m_20_nov_2018_jst_1_724x1024Did any of you see this coming? I bet some of you saw this coming. I also peaked, and I am not the only person covering Fruits Basket in 12 Days of Anime. So, sorry if you are tired of reading about Fruits Basket but I am going to talk about it, and this probably is not going to be the last post I write about it either. This is a revisit because I reviewed the show in what seems likes forever ago, 2015, for Anniversary Review Week, but I just have some things I wanted to discuss about the show since my opinion of it has changed slightly and there were a couple of things that have changed since 2015. So today for Day 3 of 12 Days of Anime we are looking at the anime that was one of the first I ever watched and its revival one of my most anticipated anime of 2019.

Amagi Brilliant Park Review

c86883b9efc479469371d4fdea72720a1432769696_fullToday we are talking about a show that aired on the tail end of another show from the same studio that I, back in 2014, was really obsessed with (okay that was kind of a lie it is a show that I am still very obsessed with). I cannot remember why exactly I chose not to watch this show as it aired, but at the time I was not watching as much seasonal anime as I am now. However, this is a series that has been on my “To Watch List” for a long time, and I am really excited to finally do it. Plus, it is a show about a theme park, and who does not love theme parks?

So here is my 47th Anime Review for a little show that really makes we want to go to Six Flags: Amagi Brilliant Park.

Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru Review

81989Sometimes you watch one show that, come to find out, is actually connected to another anime! This can happen in many ways, shapes, and forms. It could be a side story to a show, a prequel or sequel, or even a retelling of the story in a different setting or timeline. It is not a necessarily NEW concept and has happened to me very few times. This, sort of, happened to me with the anime that we are discussing today.  I am currently watching Katsugeki Touken/Ranbu and after an especially intense episode I remembered that a story about some of the same characters had been told back in the Fall 2016 Anime season. A show that I did not watch because that was during my anime/blogging hiatus. The important thing to remember about this show is that while they center on the same characters and have the same source material, the story is different. But I’m getting ahead of myself!

So here is my 46th Anime Review for a show that I had planned to watch and got around to when I got WAY to into an alternate telling of his story: Touken Ranbu Hanamaru.

Haikyuu!! Review

76014Welcome back my wonderful friends to the final day of Anniversary Review Week! I hope you have enjoyed the posts the last few days. I have enjoyed working on them and looking at some shows I have been wanting to talk about for a while. I do want to remind you guys that there are more posts coming for the rest of Anniversary Month, so stay tuned for those and cheek out the other reviews from this week if you have not seen them already! Today’s show has become one of my all-time favorite anime, and I know some of you feel the same way as well. I have been wanting to review it for a while but wanted to make sure I would be able to do it justice in a review. However, I am going to try my hardest! Plus, it is my birthday today and I always review my favorites on my birthday!! I did play the sport today’s anime is about in junior high and am already working on a post about my personal experience and how it related. That post will hopefully be out by the end of the month, time pending.

Without further adieu, here is my 45th Anime Review and Day 8 of Anniversary Review Week! It is time to look at quicks, salonpas, crows, flying high, and most importantly volleyballs in Haikyuu!!

Brothers Conflict Review

51409My friends, we are reaching the end of Anniversary Review Week and today is Day 5. That means only two more reviews after today. I hope you have enjoyed this week so far, and will stick around for the next two days as well. There will still be more posts after this week is over too! Normally I choose anime that I really like to talk about during this week, but today I wanted to just kind of…rant about one. Not a big rant, just kind of looking at a show that…you know what let’s just get started and I will explain. Today is also the review for a harem anime, which is a type of anime that I have not really written about other than when I watched Diabolik Lovers a few years ago and then reviewed it. I hope you enjoy it.!

So here is Day 6 of Anniversary Review Week and my 43rd Anime Review. Today we are looking at a harem anime that as a little bit of a twist: Brothers Conflict.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama Review

25254We are now OVER halfway through Anniversary Review Week, and today we are looking at probably the first and second romance anime I ever really watched, and one who’s manga I followed religiously after I finished the series. Which is something I only do with shows that I really liked. This is also a show that, while labeled a romance anime, does not center the entire story on the romance between the two main characters. It is also a show that I was surprised when I found out how old it actually is, because it does not seem like it could possibly be that old. However, now that I think about it…I watched this show right after I got my first computer and that was a little over seven years ago, and the show came out seven years ago. Boy, now I feel old. I mean the show is not actually all that old, it just seems like there is no way it came out seven years ago.

Without further rambling, here is my 42nd Anime Review and Day 5 of Anniversary Review Week. A cute little show about a student council president who has a little secret: Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Handa-kun Review

80752Today is Day 3 of Anniversary Review Week! I hope you have all been enjoying it and make sure you check out the other two posts if you like this one. Yesterday we talked about some pretty serious stuff, so today we are going to look at the lighter side of things. Just over a year ago, I stumbled upon a show called Barakamon.  The review of which you can check out right here: Barakamon Review. It was one of the best shows I had seen in a while and I wished that it could have gone on forever. In a way, it did go on a little bit longer, but not in the way that I had expected. But we will get to that in a little bit.

I am back again for Day 3 of Anniversary Review Week and my 40th Anime Review. Today we are returning to the world of Sei Handa in Handa-kun

Movie Monday – Summer Wars

Welcome to the first Monday of the month which means one thing, Movie Monday! Now as I’ve mentioned, and attempted to start back in June to be met with failure. So it officially starts now. Movie Monday’s are basically going to work a lot like Anime Reviews and will be left with a grade ranging from A to F.

Since summer has officially started I decided to choose a movie that takes place over the summer, and has Summer in it’s name. I recently borrowed it from a friend of mine for the second time for this review, and just the other day finally purchased myself a copy which arrived just this morning.

Here is the 1st post for Movie Monday, Summer Wars!
